The energy was electric as families cheered on the Class of 2026 at Erie Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday. Graduates made their walk, each soaking in a moment they have waited years for.
Hundreds of seniors from Erie High, the DiPaolo Student Success Center, and Collegiate Academy crossed the stage during two back‑to‑back ceremonies, honoring all the traditions that close out their high school careers.
At the ceremonies, I spoke with three graduates, each sharing their own perspective and personal story on why this day marks such an important milestone.
“My grandmother is no longer here with me. She raised me my whole life, and she would definitely be proud of me. a graduate of Colleigete Academy shared.
“A lot of my family didn’t graduate, so for me to be able to be here and actually do it means a lot. I’m very proud of myself, and they’re all proud of me too.” Shayanne Miller, a graduate of Erie High School explained.
“I’m really an adult now. Turning 18 was one step, but graduating is the next step to actually becoming a young adult and getting through life.” Nijon Young, an Erie High School Graduate said.
Among many speakers from both schools, Erie Public Schools Superintendent Natalyn Gibbs addressed the crowds, telling students their resilience, both inside and outside the classroom, has prepared them for what comes next.
As the ceremonies closed, the Class of 2026 stepped forward proud, emotional, and ready for the future.
