RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) -Rapid City Public Library kicked off its summer reading program with a dinosaur theme, offering families reading logs, prizes, and hands-on activities.
The event included fossil and excavation stations where children could dig and brush off dust like paleontologists.
Rapid City Public Library Events Coordinator Aly Quinn said the response has been positive.
“It’s been so exciting seeing all the kids thrilled coming in, we have so many different activities for them, and of course, the food stations are a big hit, but we have games where kids can win little prizes, and the shows are about to start, and they should be pretty fun too,” Quinn said.
The Black Hills Institute of Geological Research participated with dinosaur and fossil presentations. The institute brought fossils and skeletons to display throughout the library.
“They are doing some fossil and dinosaur shows, and were partnering with them throughout the summer for a few different other events, and they have brought in some dinosaurs into the library as well, so we have a few different fossils and skeletons scattered throughout the library,” Quinn said.
Families can pick up reading logs at the library to track progress for prizes tied to the America’s 250th birthday celebration challenge.
