SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A splash of colors is visible outside Scranton City Hall thanks to an annual event. About a hundred or more people gathered on Sunday for the 8th annual Scranton Pride Flag Raising.
The rainbow flag is in place for the start of June, which is Pride Month.
Several speakers addressed those on hand to talk about the importance of diversity, unity, and acceptance for the LGBTQ+ community.

“I think it sends a pretty powerful message showing people that the City of Scranton is for everyone,” Scranton City Council and Scranton Pride Committee member Jessica Rothchild said.
“Some people feel when they’re part of the LGBTQ community, they’re the ‘other.’ But when we do things like today, where we have a big public display, and we wave the flag, it shows you’re not the ‘other.’ You’re just like us. We’re all one,” In This Together NEPA Community Organizer Shawn Reilly explained.
Events planned in Scranton for Pride Month include a vigil on Courthouse Square on June 14 and Nay Aug Park Pride Family Fun Day on June 27.
