Officers responded to the 4600 block of Westminster Avenue at approximately 10:50 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, according to police.
When they arrived, they found a 67-year-old woman suffering from multiple stab wounds on the sidewalk in front of a neighbor’s home. Investigators believe the victim had tried to seek help from the neighbor before she was stabbed multiple times by her daughter.
The woman was transported by Philadelphia Fire Department medics to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later, police said.
Investigators believe the stabbing happened outside the victim’s apartment. According to Philadelphia Police Inspector D.F. Pace, the victim’s daughter did not live at the residence but visited frequently.
In an update issued Monday, June 1, Philadelphia police said the victim’s daughter had been taken into custody and was being interviewed by homicide detectives.
No charges had been announced as of publication, and the investigation remains ongoing.
