An Upper Darby Township motorcycle officer was struck by a vehicle about 7:30 Thursday morning at Owen Avenue and Garrett Road.
The officer radioed in for help. Other units quickly arrived and said the officer appeared to have a broken leg, and the motorcycle was demolished.

The other driver and the vehicle remained on location, according to radio traffic. Garrett Road was blocked off. The officer was taken to Lankenau Medical Center.
Upper Darby Police Superintendent Timothy Bernhardt said the officer has a broken leg in two places that will require surgery. There were no other injuries.
The officer, who has been on the job for 11 years, works in the highway division and was on his way to work when the incident happened.
Detectives are handling the accident and at this point the driver appears to be under the influence and is in custody, Bernhardt said.
