HARRISBURG, Pa. – A state senator who serves part of Berks, Chester and Montgomery counties is taking action to limit data centers.
Democratic Sen. Katie Muth is calling for legislation to keep data centers from becoming considered public utilities.
She says that distinction could allow data centers to use eminent domain to push through projects.
Muth says that would severely limit the power of a local government to restrict development.
She is also working on a bill to halt all data center development for three years to allow local laws to catch up.
Opponents say while data center projects continue to be pushed, the public isn’t backing down.
