Gerald (Jerry) Oleary
OBITUARY
Gerald (Jerry) Oleary, of Eynon, died peacefully on May 29th surrounded by his loved ones. Jerry would have turned 86 next month. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and John OLeary, his beloved son David, his brother Jack, and sister Marie Bernatovich and her husband Robert, all of Eynon, PA.
After graduating from Archbald High School, Jerry served his country in the Army. He was an electrician by trade, a member of the IBEW Local 81, but he was a farmer at heart. Anyone who knew him, understood how much he loved spending time at his farm. Whether he was building a stone wall, planting rows of flowers for his wife, or harvesting his corn, he lived his life staying extremely active on the land that his uncles left him. Jerry was still chopping wood for his wood-burning stove until last summer, and he also used that wood for one his favorite winter hobbies of woodcarving. He enjoyed singing along to his favorite music while carving what now looks like a menagerie. This upcoming summer will not be the same without Jerry’s veggies and the house will not be the same without his singing.
Jerry leaves behind the love of his life, his wife of 56 years, Helen Valtos Oleary, his daughter, Janet Oleary, Westfield, NJ, his daughter-in-law Kristen Oleary, Archbald, his brother Robert and sister-in-law Marilyn Oleary, Clarks Summit, many nieces and nephews, and the light of his life, his grandaughter, Kathryn Oleary and her fianc, Jackson Danzig.
We also want give a special nod to his morning coffee crew at Dunkin Donuts, his friends at the Eynon American Legion and of course to those who visited him at the farm and have had conversations with him at the barn, please know you were a special part of his life and we know you will miss him too.
Thank you to the doctors and nurses at Geisinger in Scranton and the entire staff at Allied Hospice for taking care of him and making his final days as peaceful as possible. We are eternally grateful.
The funeral will be Thursday 9:30 AM from the Harrison Funeral Home, 374 N. Main St., Archbald with Requiem Divine Liturgy at 10 in SS Cyril & Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church, 135 N. River St., Olyphant, by the Rev. Nestor Iwasiw. Interment with military honors will be in the parish cemetery.
