Cognetti in strong position to defeat Bresnahan

Paige Cognetti recently released the following statement after polls closed and the general election officially began in her campaign for Pennsylvania’s 8th Congressional District to root out Washington corruption and defeat Congressman Rob Bresnahan:

“Northeastern Pennsylvanians work hard and are tired of corrupt politicians who lie to us and hurt our community.

As the mayor of Scranton, I’ve taken on my own party and cleaned up city hall, invested in our police force, built new homes, brought in new businesses, created union jobs, and led Scranton out of decades of financial distress.

Rob Bresnahan has spent his time in office breaking promises and playing the stock market while voting to hurt our community with devastating health care cuts and higher prices.

I rooted out corruption in Scranton, and now I’m running to root it out in Washington. We are going to flip this seat and bring the fight for reform, transparency and accountability to Congress so that our government actually works for the people it’s supposed to serve.”

Non-partisan race raters agree that Pennsylvania’s 8th Congressional District is a “toss-up” race, specifically citing the strength of Cognetti’s independent anti-corruption record.

After the former mayor of Scranton was indicted for bribery, Cognetti ran as an independent to take on the Democratic machine that was using city government to benefit themselves instead of their residents. She won, cleaned up the system, balanced the budget, built new homes, brought in hundreds of new businesses, and led Scranton out of a 30-year period of financial distress.

Cognetti is a reformer who’s proven she will challenge the system; root out waste, fraud and abuse; and deliver results for the people of northeastern Pennsylvania.

NEPA needs leaders who are looking out for hardworking Pennsylvanians, not themselves. Paige Cognetti is running for Congress to bring the fight for reform, transparency and accountability to Washington and to make our federal government work as hard as we do.
