Boaters in Erie will soon have a chance to welcome a hometown icon back to the bay.
The Hagen History Center is inviting the public to join Parade of Sail on July 2 as the U.S. Brig Niagara returns to her home port.
The parade will begin at the channel of Presque Isle Bay and travel past Liberty Park before ending at the Erie Maritime Museum.
Organizers said participating boats will receive a commemorative “Don’t Give Up the Ship” flag and be part of a celebration honoring Erie’s maritime heritage.

Registration is currently open for the event.
“We’re working collaboratively with the Erie Maritime Museum. There is going to be a weekend dockside interpretation. The museum and the ship will be free to the public to visit all weekend long,” Caleb Pifer, president of the Hagen History Center, said.
Organizers said registration is limited and boaters are encouraged to sign up soon, as available spots continue to fill.
