SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — The Scranton Greek Food Festival is back at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, bringing five days of entrees, appetizers and desserts.

Appetizers range from Spanakopita and Tyropita to Dolmades, Greek salad and Manestra (orzo). Entrees include a gyro, Pastitsio, Mousaka, baked chicken, and lamb shank.

Dessert options feature Baklava, Galaktoboureko, Floyeres, Kourambiedes, Koulourakia and Finikia, along with soda, water and coffee.

Festival coordinator Alex Molfetas said the Scranton Greek Food Festival is part of an annual tradition that has been going for more than 50 years, and that visitors can expect the food and atmosphere to greet them as soon as they walk in.

“As you approach the door, you’ll be hit with a wonderful smell of Greek food. Whether it’s Galaktoboureko, our custard pie, or the chicken and lamb, all the smells and flavors come right at you. The weather looks fantastic this week, so I think it’s going to be really great,” said Molfetas.

Molfetas encouraged people to come early, noting food is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. He added that festival sales and proceeds help support the church and its work in the community.

The festival runs through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 505 N. Washington Ave. Ordering is available in person and online, and takeout customers can call ahead at 570-342-0566.
