READING, Pa. – Running a small business is no easy task, but one local company in Berks County is proving success can be measured by more than just sales.
69 News Reporter Sydney Kay was in Reading with how it’s making a difference in the community, one bottle at a time.
Denton Conner, Co-Owner of Reading Soda Works and Carbonic Supply, said the company, which has been in business for 104 years, makes craft sodas.
“It’s a very unique taste,” he said, adding the company uses cane sugar in making its sodas. The business pinpoint carbonates the soda and brews it for two days.
Conner said Reading Soda Works makes a “ton of flavors.” It makes organically based and zero-sugar sodas.
He said he hopes the small business can be part of the community for a long time.
The company works with other businesses and charities.
Co-owner Denton Lisa Conner said Reading Soda Works has been donating the markup on its products to small, local charities. She says she’s always on the lookout for new vendors.
Eli Perez, Program Administrator for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Berks County, which serves kids ages 8 to 17, said the organization relies heavily on local, community-based partnerships. The group connects kids with positive role models to help ignite their potential.
Janet Ortiz, Case Work Manager with the organization, said partnerships like the one with Reading Soda Works helps get the group out into the community and brings awareness to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Berks County.
