A teenager was seriously injured Tuesday evening after being struck by a vehicle on a Bethlehem street, city police said.
Police Captain William Audelo said city officers responded shortly after 10:30 p.m. to the 1200 block of West Broad Street. Investigators found the 19-year-old victim lying in the road with severe injuries.
The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment of potentially life-threatening injuries, Audelo said Wednesday morning.
The driver of the vehicle involved remained at the scene and is cooperating in the investigation. At this time, there is no indication that impairment was a factor in the crash, Audelo said of the driver.
A preliminary investigation includes evidence collected and witness statements. The investigation shows the pedestrian may have attempted to cross the roadway between vehicles immediately before the collision, Audelo said.
The accident remains under investigation by Bethlehem Police Department’s Major Accident Reconstruction Team.
