SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — There’s never a bad time to pick up a new book and the Sioux City Public Library held a press conference on Friday to talk about all their upcoming events.
The theme for this year’s summer reading is “Plant a Seed and Read.” The program runs from June 1st to the end of July.
Adrienne Dunn with the library says the value of summer reading leaves an impact on kids long after the book is over.
“When kids come to the library, they see that their community cares for them, that they’re not alone, it’s not just their isolated family. Their whole community is there for them and we enjoy being a part of that here in Sioux City, Dunn said.

We also asked Dunn how the cuts to the library’s funding impacts these programs.
“We’re still trying to work just as hard to offer those same excellent services to the community because that’s super important to us and we really want to make sure the community gets the resources they deserve and they do deserve a fantastic summer reading program,” Dunn said.
The library has a summer reading celebration event planned for June 4 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the library’s downtown location.
