With Erie’s America 250 and Pennsylvania 250 celebrations just weeks away, the community is preparing for a festive start to Independence Day activities, highlighted by music, family fun and patriotic pride along the waterfront.
While fireworks are scheduled for July 3, the celebration continues on July 4 with the kickoff of the Erie Philharmonic’s summer concert series at Bayview Park. Set against the scenic backdrop of Presque Isle Bay, the performance will feature the orchestra under a large tent overlooking the water.
Led by conductor Daniel Meyer, the Erie Philharmonic will present its popular “Patriotic Pops” program — a concert filled with American classics and patriotic favorites designed to celebrate the nation’s birthday.
The free concert begins at 2:30 p.m., but festivities will start earlier in the day. Local musician Josh Travis will open the event with a performance at 1 p.m., setting the tone for an afternoon of entertainment.
Families are encouraged to arrive early to take part in hands-on activities, including an “instrument petting zoo,” where children can explore and try out musical instruments. Additional family-friendly fun will take place before the orchestra takes the stage.
Organizers say the event is designed to bring the community together in celebration, offering a mix of music, education and outdoor enjoyment in one of Erie’s most scenic settings.
