SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — Newly appointed Lackawanna County Solicitor Paul Walker is choosing to forgo his salary and donate the full amount to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Commissioners Brenda Sacco and Chris Chermak both commended Walker’s decision this week, calling it a remarkable act of generosity and a reflection of his character.
“There’s been plenty of conversation about this hiring,” Sacco said. “But what stands out most to me is Paul’s heart. He chose to serve this county without taking a single dollar for himself, instead giving it all to children and families fighting for their lives. That kind of generosity and compassion is rare.”
Chermak also lauded the gesture, noting that Walker’s decision exemplifies the spirit of public service.
“I want to take a moment to recognize our county solicitor for an incredible act of generosity,” Chermak said. “He has chosen to forgo his entire salary and instead donate it to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. That’s not something you hear about every day, and it truly speaks to his character and compassion.”
Walker’s appointment as county solicitor has generated discussion in recent weeks, but both commissioners said his selfless donation highlights his dedication to the community and to using his position for good.
“I am grateful to Commissioners Sacco and Chermak for their kind words,” Walker told FOX56.
