Erie County has confirmed a case of measles, the first in the county since 2018.
The resident tested positive following a trip out of the country.
This individual was at Golisano Children’s Hospital twice, and a health center at 1021 Broadway in Buffalo on May 24 and 28.
If you were at either place on those two days, you could have been exposed to the measles.
The measles virus lives in the air and on surfaces for up to two hours. Basic symptoms include a fever, cough and watery eyes.
“Laboratory testing through the New York State Department of Health confirmed a measles infection in an individual on June 3, 2026,” a press release from Erie County read. “This individual had visited multiple locations in Erie County during their infectious period, potentially exposing others to measles on May 24, 2026 and May 28, 2026.”
If you have two doses of the MMR vaccine, have previously had measles, or were born after 1957, you are immune to the disease.
