The Allentown Planning Commission has postponed a hearing on a proposed data center in south Allentown.
The project at 2401 Emmaus Avenue was moved from the Tuesday meeting at the developer’s request, according to an online agenda. A new date has not been announced but will be no later than July 22, the agenda states.
The planning commission in 2022 approved a 224,000-square-foot warehouse at the site. They’re being asked to review new plans that call for a 23,342-square-foot addition to the building in order to convert it into a data center, according to the meeting agenda.
The plans immediately drew criticism, with residents filling recent meetings of Allentown City Council and its Environmental Advisory Commission to voice their opposition.
City Council this week delayed a vote on a proposed data center ordinance that would limit where such developments would be allowed. Critics have called it too lenient.
