Firefighters are working to extinguish a vegetation fire alongside State Highway 2 in Bethlehem.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand northern fire communications shift manager Gareth Lewis said crews were called at 2.10pm following reports of the fire.
“We got the call for that at 2.10pm and it’s reporting a vegetation fire,” Lewis said.
One fire truck was initially dispatched and remained at the scene, with the crew bringing the fire under control.
The blaze was estimated to be about 20 metres by 10 metres in size.
Crews were still on-site working to fully extinguish the fire.
