HARRISBURG– Student actors brought history to life at the state capitol today.
Five students performed a scene and song from “1776: The Musical” in the house chamber.
The actors depicted historical figures like Benjamin Franklin and John Adams and received a standing ovation from lawmakers.
The performance kicked off the celebration of America 250 for representatives.
The show was part of “Celebrating 1776!”, a program that explores American history through performing arts.
“To see young people 250 years later telling that story with a multicultural cast, a multi-ethnic cast is really powerful. This is what I think the declaration of independence looks like, you know, visually.” said Phillip Brown, executive producer and director of 1776.
The students will perform the full 1776 musical starting June 24.
