A Philadelphia man is in custody after repeatedly threatened his ex-girlfriend, Upper Darby police say.
James Angelo Avitalle, 19, was arrested by police Friday and charged with firearm violations, attempting to elude officers, recklessly endangering another person, receiving stolen property and traffic violations.
Upper Darby Police Superintendent Timothy Bernhardt said officers were called the day before for a domestic incident. A male had threatened his ex-girlfriend but fled before police arrived. A warrant was issued for the man’s arrest. Later in the day he returned to the residence and again fled before police arrived.
Police spotted him, and he was arrested after a brief pursuit. He was found in possession of a firearm, which resulted in the weapons charges.
Avitalle was arraigned before District Justice Benjamin Johns and was committed to Delaware County prison in lieu of $500,000 bail. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing June 26 in front of Magisterial District Judge Christopher R. Mattox.
