OBITUARY

Michael Gerard Gilhooley, Jr., 84, of Jessup Formerly of Scranton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on June 5th. He is survived by his wife of 60 years , Roselyn Barrett Gilhooley.

Mike was a kind, gentle, and humble man who was always loyal to family and friends. He had incredible strength and determination, even as he faced a difficult illness. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a devoted husband for over 60 years and was an understanding, wise and patient father, who was always there to help his family and friends. He was very proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He attended St. Paul’s School and earned an Associate’s Degree from Lackawanna College. He served three years in the US Navy aboard the U.S.S, Intrepid aircraft carrier, serving on the flight deck. The Intrepid is now a museum in New York City harbor. After a lengthy career as an Industrial Engineer, he went on to serve as a manager for the Lackawanna County Housing Authority.

He cruised the Caribbean on three separate occasions and had a chance to see much of the world, but his favorite times were spent at home with his family. He loved to sit on his back porch and spend time in the yard playing wiffle ball with his grandkids and growing tomatoes in his garden.

Also surviving are three children; Dr. Michael Gilhooley and wife Christina, Timothy Gilhooley and wife Jessica, and Maureen Straka and husband Dr. Stephen Straka, and eight grandchildren, Amanda Barr (Matt) , Dr. Sean Gilhooley, Patrick Gilhooley, Katie Gilhooley, Dr. Hannah Gilhooley, Timmy Gilhooley, Andrew Straka, Connor Straka and three great-Grandchildren, Ryan, Maeve and Owen Barr.

The family would like to thank Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore for their exceptional care, along with Dr. Gupta, Dr. Perhl, and the team at Geisinger Center in Dickson.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 100 William St., Dunmore, PA 18510.

The funeral will be held Wednesday from the Louis M. Margotta Funeral Home, 511 Church St., Jessup with Mass at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Peckville. Interment, St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery, Archbald. Friends may call on Tuesday from 5 to 8 at the funeral home. For online condolences go to funeral home website.
