REED CITY —  Reed City Area Public Library will be taking its patrons to a land before time this summer… the Bookrassic Period.

“The theme Bookrassic Park is a spin on Unearth a Story, the summer reading program theme chose by the Collaborative Summer Reading Program, relating to dinosaurs, paleontology and archaeology,” Kristie Feguer, executive director of the Reed City Area District Library, said.

The program kicks off June 12 with an event 10 years in the making.

“We will be having a 10 year open house to celebrate 10 years in the current building at 829 S. Chestnut in Reed City. They opened the library doors on June 13, 2016,” Feguer said. “We will be unveiling a new monument sign as well on that day and kicking off our summer reading program.”

The summer reading program consists of two parts — reading goals and events.

“There are reading goals during the summer reading program and completing those goals will earn patrons prizes from the library,” Feguer said. “The summer reading program, including goals and prizes, is available for kids, teens and adults.”

Reed City Area Public Library service area covers all of Reed City proper, along with Cedar, Lincoln and Richmond townships in Osceola County and Green Charter Township in Mecosta County.

“You must be a library patron to participate in the summer reading program, but the events are free for everyone,” Feguer said.

Although events are free, registration is still required.

“Events are hosted in our community room and require registration online so we can ensure fire safety/capacity,” Feguer said. “We are just limited by the space we have for the programs, essentially.”
