The Erie community mourns the loss of longtime business owner and supporter of the Erie Playhouse, Carl Larese, who passed away last week at the age of 67.
Larese founded and owned Larese Floral Design in 1999 and became well known not only for his work as a florist, but also for his years of service and support of the Erie Playhouse. He served on the Playhouse Board of Directors for many years, including a recent term as board president during the 2025 season.
Erie Playhouse Executive Director Zach Flock said Larese’s impact on the organization extended far beyond what audiences saw on stage.
“Carl was a real giant in this community. Just one of a kind. Such a generous person and for decades has been a part of the Playhouse family,” Flock said. “Carl would be the first to tell you that he shied away from the spotlight and was not one to be on stage, but was such a big supporter.”
To honor his memory, the Erie Playhouse has placed a tribute to Larese on its marquee. Flock said the organization also plans to dedicate its upcoming production of 1776, which opens this weekend, to Larese memory.
