SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — Thousands of rail fans are expected to visit downtown Scranton later this month for the historic reunion of Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4014 and Steamtown National Historic Site’s Big Boy No. 4012.

With large crowds anticipated, Steamtown National Historic Site and City of Scranton officials are urging visitors to plan ahead for parking, traffic delays, and transportation options before heading to the event.
Big Boy No. 4014, the world’s largest operating steam locomotive, will be on display at Steamtown from June 17 through June 30. The visit marks a rare opportunity to see two Big Boy locomotives side-by-side.

Traffic and road impacts
PennDOT will post signs along Interstate 81 warning drivers about possible delays entering downtown Scranton.City officials are coordinating with crews involved in ongoing downtown streetscape construction projects to reduce traffic disruptions.Visitors should expect heavy traffic and delays throughout the event period.Reservations and entrySteamtown NHS will be closed June 14 to prepare for the event.Advanced reservations are required for visits June 15-30.The park will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.Visitors may enter up to 30 minutes before their reservation time.Guests should have printed or digital tickets ready upon arrival.
Entry and exit will be through pedestrian gates behind the Lackawanna Transit Center at 30 Lackawanna Ave.
