Olivia Thomas continues to build upon her legacy, and Aiden Janowicz earned recognition for a historic area run.
Thomas, a PIAA champion in her freshman season, and Janowicz, a senior, were both named to the Pennsylvania Track and Field Coaches Association Track and Field All-State Teams announced on the organization’s website on Wednesday.
The PTFCA selects athletes for individual events with no distinction between classifications. Thomas, the Class 2A gold medalist in the triple jump, was named to the first team. Janowicz, a PIAA Class 3A silver medal winner in the 800-meter run, was selected to the third team.
“It’s really an honor to be picked and knowing that I could achieve this,” Thomas said. “It helps me a lot and I hope that I can do the same next year.”
In her debut season, Thomas finished with a state title in the triple jump with a leap of 39 feet, 11.5 inches during a cold and wet final day at the PIAA Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg University.
She had a personal-best distance and a District 2 Class 2A record of 40-10.75, which allowed her to reach the state meet. That mark was the top-ranked distance in the state for the 2026 season, according to pa.milesplit.com.
Thomas’ performance in the triple jump ranked 34th nationally and is ranked second among freshmen in the country.
The state title was the crown jewel of a spectacular spring for Thomas. In addition to winning the triple jump at the state meet, she also won silver medals in the long jump (18-11.75) and the 100 hurdles (14.32). Both of her jumping distances are the best recorded in Lackawanna Track Conference history, and her time in the hurdles is second all-time in the LTC.
On June 18, Thomas will compete at the New Balance National Championships at the University of Pennsylvania’s Franklin Field.
“I am really excited to go down there and compete, and hopefully do well,” Thomas said. “I have been working on little things in the jumps and the hurdles. I am preparing myself without doing too much to make sure that I don’t get injured.”
Janowicz raced in the second of three heats in the Class 3A 800. He finished first with a career-best time of 1 minute, 51.52 seconds, which is the fastest recorded in LTC history. Upper Darby senior Josh Sharp won the gold in the fast heat with a time of 1:51.44. Sharp earned the first-team honor, and Mifflin County’s Carter Smith was the second-team selection.
During the season, Janowicz won the District 2 Class 2A gold medal (1:55.24) and the 1,600 gold (4:27.14). He also won the titles in the 800 at the Robert Spagna Championships and the Walter Godek Twilight Invitational.
Last weekend, Janowicz finished fifth in the 800 (1:53.32) at the Henderson Last Chance for Nationals Open Meet.
