CLEVELAND (WJW) — The National Weather Service is warning swimmers not to enter the water in Lake Erie late tonight through Friday afternoon.

A Beach Hazard Statement has been issued for several counties beginning 2 a.m. Friday and stretching through Friday afternoon due to “hazardous swimming conditions.”

NWS says swimmers should not enter the water, and currents can carry them away from the shore. A high risk of rip currents are expected.

The alert will be in effect for Ashtabula lakeshore, Cuyahoga, Erie, Lake, Lorain and Ottawa counties.
