The Erie Humane Society has appointed Peggy Schneider as its interim executive director following the recent resignation of Joe Lang, according to an announcement from the organization’s Board of Directors.
Schneider brings extensive experience and familiarity with the organization to the role. She served on the Erie Humane Society Board of Directors for 12 years, including four years as board president. During her tenure as president, she helped lead the development of the organization’s Pet Wellness Clinic, located on the Erie Humane Society campus.
In addition to her work with the Erie Humane Society, Schneider has a strong background in nonprofit leadership and fundraising. Most recently, she spent 12 years in various leadership positions with Allegheny Health Network, including serving as director of Medical Affairs at Saint Vincent Health System. Her experience also includes fundraising work with the Saint Vincent Foundation and the Achievement Center.
To assume the interim executive director position, Schneider stepped down from her role on the Erie Humane Society Board of Directors.
Schneider will work alongside Lang in the coming weeks to ensure a smooth leadership transition. The board said it plans to conduct a formal search for a permanent executive director later this year.
