Retired truck driver Alfred Behney of Berks County is enjoying an unforgettable stroke of luck after winning a top prize in the Pennsylvania Lottery’s $10,000 a Month for Life Scratch-Off game.The 87-year-old was honored with a commemorative check during a presentation at Pennsylvania Lottery Headquarters in Middletown, Dauphin County. Behney bought the winning ticket on May 27 at Star Gas & Diesel, located at 8558 Lancaster Avenue in Bethel Township. The store will also benefit from the win, receiving a $10,000 bonus for selling the ticket.Behney said his winning purchase came during one of his usual outings. A fan of fresh produce, he often visits Amish and Mennonite farm stands and occasionally stops at a local gas station for coffee and a Scratch-Off ticket.A regular Lottery player for many years, Behney said the moment he realized he had won was hard to believe. After scanning the ticket at the store, both he and the clerk were stunned by the result.“The clerk and I scanned it and we both just stood there, looking at each other. We didn’t believe it!” Behney recalled. “I thought, ‘There’s got to be something wrong.’”He chose the annuity option, which will provide him with $10,000 a month for life. The prize carries a cash value of $1.6 million.
