READING, Pa. — The Dominican Cultural Network of Pennsylvania officially launched Friday in Reading.

Organizers say the goal is to bring people together, not just Dominicans, but anyone interested in learning more about the culture and community.

“The event is related to why it’s important for people to understand who we are. What would we like to do in the community? What would we like to do in the Dominican community?” said Sunilda Tejada.

Tejada has owned Caribe Travel in Reading for nearly three decades. She says the idea grew out of a rapidly growing Dominican and Latino population in the region, and a desire to build stronger connections.

“The community, Dominican community and all the Latino communities growing so much in the city of Reading. And we believe we need more people to be involved. More people to educate,” Tejada said.

The organization plans to host cultural, educational and networking events.

Leaders say the network is also meant to serve as a bridge, helping newcomers navigate life in Pennsylvania while giving others a better understanding of Dominican culture and traditions.

“We welcome everybody. Could be from another country… even for U.S., Europe. Whatever would like to understand our culture and ourselves, we are more than happy to open,” Tejada said.

People interested in learning more about the organization can find it through its social media pages under the name Red Dom PA.
