(WHTM) – An 87-year-old Pennsylvania man recently won $10,000 a Month for Life on a scratch-off ticket.
The Pennsylvania Lottery says Alfred Behney of Berks County bought the winning ticket at Star Gas & Diesel in Bethel Township on May 27. He was driving through the area looking for produce from an Amish or Mennonite farm stand when he stopped for a coffee and lottery ticket.

The lottery says Behney, a former truck driver and U.S. Army veteran, took the prize’s annuity option. The lottery says the cash prize is a lump sum of $1.6 million.
Behney realized he won after scanning the ticket in the store, which will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the ticket.

“The clerk and I scanned it and we both just stood there, looking at each other,” Behney told the Pennsylvania Lottery. “We didn’t believe it! I thought, ‘There’s got to be something wrong.’”
Before joining the Army, Behney signed a minor league baseball contract with the Detroit Tigers to play in Montgomery, Alabama, making $300 a month.
“My parents had to send me money. But it was such a great experience,” he said.
