The upcoming Broadway in Scranton series will include the current Tony-winning Broadway hit “Hadestown,” and “Jersey Boys,” the crowd-pleasing story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. There will be six nationally touring musicals in the series, which has played at the Scranton Cultural Center at the Masonic Temple for decades.
Tickets are sold for full and partial season tickets and individual shows. Season ticket sales begin Monday, with prices beginning at $409.
First up, “Mystic Pizza,” a musical adaptation of the 1988 Julia Roberts rom-com movie, will be on Oct. 23–25. The 2021 musical has not been on Broadway, but instead played regional theaters, including the prestigious Paper Mill Playhouse in New Jersey.

A tour of “Jersey Boys” is returning to Scranton.

Set in a Connecticut pizza place, it pits working-class girls against the privileged country club set. It includes songs of the era, such as “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” “Hold On,” “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” and “Hit Me with Your Best Shot.”
Next is “Beetlejuice,” which is also a movie adaptation but was reimagined as a Broadway musical. Based on Tim Burton’s humorous ghost story, it arrives Dec. 11-13. It had three separate runs on Broadway in recent years, totaling around 790 performances. It was nominated for several Tonys but did not win any.
“Hadestown” has been on Broadway for seven years and is also playing in the West End, the London equivalent of Broadway. It will be in Scranton on Feb. 19–21. It is a love story that intertwines two epic myths, Orpheus and Eurydice and that of King Hades and his wife, Persephone, and is partly set in Hades, or the underworld. “Hadestown” won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and awards for score, costumes and scenic design.
The Tony-winning “Jersey Boys,” a toe-tapping and sometimes tragic take on the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, will be in Scranton April 16-18. The show is again on tour for its 20th anniversary. It ran on Broadway for 11 years and won Best Musical in 2006. The score includes “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Oh What a Night,” “Walk Like a Man,” “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” “Beggin’” and “Working My Way Back to You.” It won a Grammy.
“Shucked,” a proudly corny Broadway musical comedy, will sprout up May 14-16. As the corn that protects the farm community begins to die, a hero has to venture beyond the borders of Cobb County for help. It was on Broadway for 11 months and was nominated for several Tony Awards in 2023. It lost Best Musical to “Kimberly Akimbo.”
The season will end with “A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical” on July 23-25, 2027. Diamond collaborated on the musical, which includes his hits of the ‘60s to the ‘80s, including “America,” “Forever in Blue Jeans” and “Sweet Caroline.” It closed on Broadway in 2024, after 19 months and no Tony Award nominations.
