Flames heavily damaged a home in Scott Twp. early Sunday.
Firefighters from the Midvalley, Upvalley and the Abingtons responded to the blaze at 72 Sylvan Acres Lane in the Justus section of the township around 3 a.m. The call came in as a fully involved structure fire, with the caller seeing flames through the woods, said Chris Uhrin, chief of the Justus Volunteer Fire Company.
Crews saw “a large volume” of flames in the garage area. They put out the fire in 45 minutes, he said.
John and Marilyn Minelli have owned the home since 1966, according to Lackawanna County property records. No one was home at the time of the fire, Uhrin said, and the homeowners were informed of the fire by a neighbor. There were no injuries.
Flames destroyed half of the home, while the remaining half sustained smoke damage, he said.
The cause and origin of the fire were unknown as of Sunday. A state police fire marshal was investigating the fire, Uhrin said.
The Scott Twp. Police Department, PPL and Scott Twp. emergency medical services also responded.
