Gannon University has announced that Father Shane Mathew has begun his role as its new interim provost, placing a longtime university leader and educator at the helm of the institution’s academic mission.
Father Shane will oversee Gannon’s academic programs and strategic priorities in his new role, bringing with him a combination of pastoral, academic, and administrative experience.
A priest of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Erie, Father Shane was ordained in 2005 and has served in a variety of leadership and educational positions throughout his ministry and professional career. His experience spans parish ministry, Catholic secondary education, and higher education administration.
Since joining Gannon University in 2015, Father Shane has held several leadership and teaching roles, including serving as a university trustee, instructor in the theology department, associate vice president for mission immersion, and most recently, associate provost for mission immersion.
University officials said his extensive experience and deep connection to Gannon’s mission make him well-positioned to guide the institution during this transition.
The university welcomed Father Shane into his new role on a Facebook post, expressing excitement for his leadership as interim provost and confidence in his ability to support Gannon’s academic and strategic goals moving forward.
