Mayor Paige Gebhardt Cognetti, the Democratic candidate for the 8th Congressional District seat in this year’s midterm elections, opened her congressional campaign office in Scranton this past weekend.

The office at 301 Mulberry St. will serve as a base for Cognetti’s Paige for PA campaign as the race between her and Republican U.S. Rep. Rob Bresnahan of Dallas Twp. ramps up this summer and fall ahead of the midterm election Nov. 3. Cognetti, Scranton’s mayor since 2020, is fighting to unseat Bresnahan, the Trump-endorsed GOP incumbent who won his 8th District seat in 2024 by defeating longtime incumbent Democratic Congressman Matt Cartwright.

The Bresnahan/Cognetti matchup in the district that includes all of Lackawanna, Wayne and Pike and parts of Luzerne and Monroe counties is expected to be among the most competitive House races in the nation this year.
