SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — A Lackawanna County jury has convicted a former Archbald man on multiple charges stemming from what prosecutors described as a violent domestic assault.
Lackawanna County District Attorney Brian Gallagher announced Thursday that Evan Quinnan was found guilty on all charges following a two-day jury trial before Judge Andrew J. Jarbola.
According to prosecutors, the case began after the victim reported to Archbald Police that Quinnan physically and sexually assaulted her inside their home.
Authorities said the victim reported that Quinnan repeatedly struck her, leaving bruises across her body and causing a black eye. Evidence presented during trial also established that Quinnan sexually assaulted the victim while threatening additional violence if she did not comply, according to the district attorney’s office.
After deliberating for approximately 25 minutes, jurors returned guilty verdicts on all charges, including involuntary deviate sexual intercourse by forcible compulsion and simple assault causing bodily injury.
Following the verdict, Judge Jarbola revoked Quinnan’s bail and ordered him to undergo an evaluation by the Pennsylvania Sexual Offender Assessment Board to determine whether he meets the criteria to be designated a sexually violent predator.
Quinnan faces a maximum sentence of 22 years in prison.
The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Bo Loughey and Assistant District Attorney Tara Foley. Officer Mark Waters of the Archbald Police Department led the investigation.
“This verdict is about justice for a victim who endured horrific physical, sexual and emotional abuse,” Gallagher said in a statement. “It took tremendous courage for her to come forward and relive these traumatic events in a courtroom.”
If released from incarceration in the future, Quinnan will be required to register as a sex offender for life under Pennsylvania’s Sexual Offender Registration and Notification Act, commonly known as SORNA.
