Goalie Toby Wilmet made 12 saves, including stopping two penalty strokes in the first half. Laura Fitzpatrick scored Trail’s other goal three minutes into the second half to tie the game, 1-1. … Damon Verton scored four touchdowns and ran for 221 yards to become the school’s first 2,000-yard rusher (2,013) as Western Wayne topped Montrose, 28-6, to grab a share of its first Suburban Conference title. It is the Warriors’ first District 2 title and 13th district crown in school history. … John Russell was named manager of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons, succeeding Gene Lamont. … Scranton Prep bunched its top five runners within 38 seconds of each other to total 138 points and win the Class AA boys title at the PIAA Cross Country Championships at Hersheypark Stadium’s White Field. It was the Cavaliers’ second straight state title and fifth in six years, but first under head coach Mike Ludka. Shamus McGuigan was top finisher for Scranton Prep in 28th place.
