READING, Pa. — Juneteenth celebrations are starting early in Reading.
The Olivet Boys and Girls Club hosted a presentation about the holiday on Thursday.
It took place at the club’s Pandora Park location.
Organizers say the program is about more than the holiday itself, it’s about celebrating differences as well as similarities.
“We find out that we have so much more in common then we do as far as differences are concerned. When we look at food, when we look at music, if we look at culture – there’s a lot of similarities that in which we can learn from each other and appreciate what each of us has to offer to one another,” said Stacey Taylor.
The celebration continues through Saturday with a number of events, culminating with the annual ‘Celebrate Freedom Community Event’ at Zion Baptist Church.
That runs from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
