SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Six 24-karat gold replicas of the Big Boy 4014 have stopped in their tracks in Scranton.

Five of them already flew off the shelf at Nolan and Rodger’s along North Main Avenue in the Electric City.

With the Big Boy 4014 in town until the end of June before heading down to the Philadelphia for the Fourth of July celebrations, large crowds have been gathering since Monday to witness the 4014 parking next to its sister, the 4012.

Leo Nolan, one of the partners at Nolan and Rodgers, explained the business has never been so busy as it has this past week. Nolan has been operating the store for most of his life he says.

The replica is a one of 1,776 made by the German train company, “Marklin.” Nolan said the replica train has all the bells and whistles a typical replica train has. All of the passionate train enthusiasts who bought the replicas say they will never run the limited-edition train. It will instead serve as a display piece.

Jules Fox, of Clarks Summit, recently started collecting trains. He said that if he had the necessary funds, he would definitely run the Big Boy replica on the track, citing the high-quality craftsmanship from the German company.

The last remaining replica is currently on display at Nolan and Rodgers, priced at $2,650. Nolan says it is unclear as of now if he will eventually sell it to someone, or if it will remain as a display piece in the store.

The Big Boy 4014 is expected to be sitting at the Steam town National Historic Site until June 30.
