Asbestos has been found in a Reading Area Community College building undergoing renovations.

College officials said an asbestos abatement project at Berks Hall will begin in July. The school is working with environmental consultants and experts on finalizing an abatement plan.

“All work will be conducted in accordance with applicable federal and state regulations, as well as established safety protocols,” a statement from RACC said.

College officials said qualified and licensed professionals will perform all required activities under appropriate regulatory oversight. As part of the plan, measures will be implemented to ensure the safe completion of the work while minimizing disruption to college operations.

Officials said additional information about the project, including schedules and timelines, will be shared when they become available.

The campus will remain open during the project, with RACC officials saying they continue to be focused on serving and educating students.

“The health and safety of our students, employees and visitors remains our highest priority,” the statement reads.
