The East Lansdowne Police Department invites residents and community members to attend a free firearms safety class designed to promote responsible firearm ownership, safe storage practices, and firearm safety awareness within our homes and neighborhoods, the department said.
It is Sunday, July 12, at noon at borough hall, 155 Lexington Ave.
The program will be conducted by firearms instructor Chris Grant and feature keynote speaker Steven Lichtenstein, CEO and president of GPS Gun Range & Training Center in Yeadon, who will discuss the importance of firearms safety and community responsibility.
Topics will include:
• Safe firearm handling principles
• Secure firearm storage in the home
• Child access prevention strategies
• Preventing unauthorized access to firearms
• Home firearm safety best practices
• Free gun locks available for all attendees
• Food and beverages to be provided
• No cost to attend
East Lansdowne Police Chief James Cadden said borough and all area residents are welcome to attend.
“Whether you are a longtime firearm owner, new to firearms, or simply interested in learning more about firearm safety, this class offers valuable information for everyone,” he says. “Together, we can help promote a safer community through education, awareness, and responsible firearm ownership.”
Cadden referenced as impetus for the class, the gunshot death last month of a 14-year-old girl on Springton Road in Upper Darby Township, and other casualties from similar incidents.
