Karen Magdon
OBITUARY
Karen Magdon, 71, formerly of Throop, PA, passed away peacefully in Pomona, NJ, on June 7, 2026.
Born on May 31, 1955 in Scranton to Henry and Olga Magdon, Karen was raised with an abundance of love, faith, and joy. Her love of Jesus and her faith in God had a profound impact on everyone she met. Karen possessed a rare capacity for unconditional love and taught the family the true meaning of patience, acceptance and joy. Karen was the heart of the family and the apple of her father’s eye. She also had the biggest heart to go along with her stubbornness, although that was short-lived. Karen had a tremendous love for her family and would always greet everyone with a smile that stretched from ear to ear.
Karen attended school in Throop and was employed by Allied Services. Karen was a participant at Goodwill Industries in Scranton, where she made many friends. She particularly loved the days when they would go bowling. Bowling quickly became her favorite activity and she was so proud of the trophies she received. Every time you visited her, she would proudly show you her trophies. Karen had many favorite pastimes. She especially enjoyed listening to the polkas on Saturday mornings, playing her organ, and singing and strumming her guitar or belting out a verse of Sto Lat. She loved dancing the polka and doing the chicken dance. The Sound of Music was her favorite movie. Her favorite TV shows were The Waltons, where she would always call out the Good night, John Boy sequence, and Medical Center. When Dr. Gannon would come on the TV screen, Karen would giggle and say, What a hunk. She also spent time coloring, doing word search books, writing notes and playing cards. You could never beat her at a game of checkers. Karen had a sharp memory and an uncanny ability to remember everyone’s birthday. She would always remind you how many more days until her birthday, always saying My birthday’s coming and proceed to show you the calendar where the date was always circled even though it may have been a few months away. When her birthday was over, she started looking forward to Christmas and each year her request would be the same: a popcorn maker. Karen loved pancakes so much that she requested them every day. She also loved Carvel ice cream cake, pepe soup, Shamrock Shakes and pizza from her brother’s sub shop. Everyone in the family has a favorite memory to share that is so Karen. We all remember the returnables, the Turkey with Get in the Car, and Make it rain Lord, harder. We will always imagine Karen saying, Jesus help me, Stay calm, Stay cool, and Oh well. Karen found happiness in the little things in life. She was a bright shining light in our lives. Karen was deeply loved by all of her family and will be forever missed. Heaven just got its newest angel.
Karen was preceded in death by her father, Henry; her mother, Olga; her sister, Marlene; and her brother, Henry Paul. She is survived by her sister Lorraine, and brother-in-law, Paul, of Pomona NJ, her brother Mark of Clarks Summit, sister-in-law Chris, (wife of Henry Paul), of Throop; and many nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-niece.
