One man was killed and three people were flown to the hospital after a two-vehicle crash in Pike County on Friday afternoon, state police at Blooming Grove said.
Troopers responded to the 200 block of Route 434 in Shohola Twp. around 4:34 p.m. and were assisted on scene by emergency medical personnel from Shohola and Lackawaxen, the Greeley and Shohola fire departments and the Pike County coroner’s office.
Francis Connaughton, 65, of Shohola, was traveling north around a right-hand curve on Route 434 and drove into oncoming traffic, striking another vehicle, police said. Connaughton was pronounced dead at the scene.
Connaughton’s vehicle overturned and hit a utility pole and tree, troopers said.
A 17-year-old girl from Naples, New York — the driver of the other vehicle — and two passengers inside the car, Eric Bersch, 45, of Lake Ariel, and a 13-year-old boy from Lake Ariel, were flown to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Twp. with suspected serious injuries, troopers said.
