The Erie County Public Library kicked off a summer filled with reading on Saturday.
The Blasco Library held their annual summer reading celebration.
Families explored the Idea Lab, read books, played games, got a sweet treat and learned from the library’s historical education exhibits.
Werner Books supplied free books and Erie’s Public Schools helped prepare students for their summer reading projects.

This year’s is theme is “Founding Stories,” celebrating and learning about history just in time for America 250.
“Erie, as a community, we are historically low on literacy rates, so here at the public library, we take that personally, and we really want all of our community reading, because when we raise a community of readers, we raise the entire community,” said Alyssa Johnson, communication and outreach coordinator for the Erie County Public Library.
With plenty of community resources and partners on site, organizers said the celebration helped readers gear up for a summer full of learning.
