ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Authorities charged two juveniles after another juvenile was shot in the face in Allentown.

The DA’s office says the defendants are being charged as juveniles and their names will not be released, according to a news release from the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office.

The victim’s name will also not be released. Authorities say she remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

Shortly before 2 a.m. on Sunday, Allentown Police were called to a shooting in the 100 block of Pine Street. Officers found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the face and she was taken to an area hospital, according to the DA’s office.

Witnesses at the scene told officers that several juveniles were hanging out in a bedroom. One male juvenile had a .380-caliber handgun in his fanny pack, the DA’s office said. Several of the teens asked one male juvenile if they could see the gun.

According to authorities, he removed the gun from the fanny pack, racked the slide, and dropped the magazine out of the gun. He then told the others that there was not a round in the chamber and gave the gun to one of the female juveniles, according to the DA’s office.

That female juvenile pointed the handgun, equipped with a laser sight, around the room when she pulled the trigger and hit the victim in the face, authorities said.

The DA’s office says most of the teens fled and the male juvenile who had the gun in his fanny pack picked it up and also fled. He threatened the female juvenile who fired the gun not to speak to police, or she would be beaten, according to the news release.

One of the teens remained, called 911, and rendered aid to the victim until police arrived.

The male juvenile, from Lansford, Carbon County, is charged with intimidation of witnesses or victims, firearms not to be carried without a license, possession of a firearm by a minor, tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, and five counts of recklessly endangering another person, according to the DA’s office.

The female juvenile, of Allentown, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a minor, and recklessly endangering another person, the DA’s office said.
