SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — A Scranton woman has been charged in federal court as part of the Justice Department’s nationwide 2026 Health Care Fraud Takedown, which targeted hundreds of defendants accused of fraud schemes involving billions of dollars in losses.
Federal prosecutors announced that Kerry Ann Elliott Beaubrun, 43, has been charged by criminal information with one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, Beaubrun is accused of participating in a scheme that involved stealing checks issued by an entity to various payees, including checks funded through federal health care programs such as Medicare and Medicaid.
Prosecutors allege the scheme resulted in losses exceeding $300,000.
Authorities claim Beaubrun unlawfully endorsed checks intended for other recipients and deposited them for her own benefit. Federal investigators allege the proceeds were used for personal expenses and that multiple banks were defrauded as part of the operation.
The case was investigated by the United States Postal Inspection Service and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Luisa Honora Berti.
The charge was announced as part of the Justice Department’s 2026 National Health Care Fraud Takedown, a coordinated enforcement effort that resulted in criminal charges against 455 defendants nationwide, including 90 doctors and other licensed medical professionals.
Federal officials said the cases collectively involve more than $6.5 billion in alleged fraudulent claims and schemes tied to health care programs and opioid distribution.
The operation also led to the seizure of more than $182 million in cash, luxury vehicles, jewelry and other assets allegedly connected to criminal activity.
