BERN TWP., Pa. – For the first time this year, President Donald Trump paid a visit to the Keystone State touching down at Reading Regional Airport in Bern Township.
“I didn’t know where it was coming from until I seen it and we heard this roar and next we know there’s the plane. And it landed and we stood out in the rain watching it,” said Mick Snlok of Bernville.
Whether you watched it on your TV or your phone, it’s a history making memory for some in Berks.
“Very exciting and actually we saw Bo announce it at noon time that he was flying in around 12, 1 o’clock, jumped in the car down we came and here we are,” said Debbie Sambrotta of Bernville.
“lt was a thrill for me just watching them that’s the closest we’ve ever gotten to a presidential plane, so it was really nice,” said Gary Swavely of Fleetwood.
On a wet, rainy runway and under an umbrella, with Berks County as a backdrop, President Trump stepped off Air Force One and spoke to the White House Press Pool on a variety of topics, including the reflecting pool in D-C and his take on the talks with Iran.
“We’re making an amazing deal with Iran. We’re making a deal that’s going to keep the country and the world safe,” President Trump said. “We’re not gonna let Iran have a nuclear weapon and they know that and we know that, thank you very much.”
The event is a first for some.
“To me, it doesn’t make any difference what you are whether you’re a Republican, Democrat, I think that the President and our politicians are doing the best they can and they deserve our respect,” Swavely said.
And one they won’t soon forget.
“No, I don’t think so. I’m 71 years old. I may forget it later.”
