BETHLEHEM, Pa. — A popular Lehigh Valley sweet spot is featured on PETA’s “Nice Cream Trail,” highlighting 10 shops across the state serving up delicious vegan ice cream.
Vegan Treats, at 1444 Linden St. in Bethlehem, is among the trail’s featured parlors, according to a news release.
The Bethlehem shop rotates its tasty dairy-free soft-serve flavors twice weekly, with options including blueberry and lemon cheesecake, chocolate and peanut butter, banana cream pie, and more.
Vegan Treats — which also serves vegan cakes, cookies, brownies, pies, doughnuts and other sweet treats — is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays.
Vegan Treats operates at 1444 Linden St. in Bethlehem.
“Pennsylvania is home to a plethora of parlors serving up delicious dairy-free desserts that are as kind to cows as they are to taste buds,” PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk said in the release.
“PETA’s ‘Nice Cream Trail’ gives ice cream lovers the scoop on where to beat the heat with vegan sweets, and we encourage everyone to support Vegan Treats and other forward-thinking local businesses.”
PETA, which stands for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, is the largest animal rights organization in the world, with PETA entities totaling more than 10.4 million members and supporters globally.
The organization was founded in 1980 and is dedicated to establishing and defending the rights of all animals.
It operates under the principle that “animals are not ours to experiment on, eat, wear, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way.”
PETA’s vegan “iScream” truck has traversed the country, satisfying sweet tooths far and wide by giving away thousands of decadent dairy-free delights, “while bringing attention to the cruel separation of mother cows from their beloved calves in the dairy industry,” the release states.
PETA notes that with an abundance of dairy-free ice cream options available today including vegan flavors from Oatly, Breyer’s, Ben & Jerry’s and other brands, it’s easy to opt for delicious desserts that let calves stay with their mothers.
“And to make the festivities even sweeter, the first Pennsylvania resident to complete the trail by visiting all 10 participating shops through August will win the cherry on top: a vegan ice cream party with PETA’s famous “iScream” truck for themselves and up to 50 guests,” the release states.
Other stops on the trail include Lu & Aug’s (Ardmore), Dreams Ice Cream Factory (Glenside), Honey Bear (Harrisburg), Frio Creamery (Pittsburgh), Lancaster Sweet Shoppe (Lancaster), The Main Freeze (Lansdale), Milk Jawn (Philadelphia), Scoop DeVille (Philadelphia), and Millie’s Homemade Ice Cream (11 Pennsylvania locations).
Participating shops will display a window sign and distribute trail maps showing all the sweet stops.
