A Bethlehem township man admitted Wednesday he fatally slit his wife’s throat, and also stabbed and bludgeoned her chest a combined ten times in a bathtub in their home.
James Christopher Frank, 58, used a steak knife and a hammer to stab and strike 55-year-old Deborah Glaser’s chest a combined ten times, according to Northampton County First Assistant District Attorney Robert Eyer.
She died from a severed jugular after Frank slit her throat, Eyer said.
Frank pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, which carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison. Judge Brian Panella put off sentencing until Wednesday, June 17, so Glaser’s family could attend.
Police were called for a welfare check on March 11, 2025, to Frank and Glaser’s home in the 2100 block of Third Street, according to Eyer. Frank wouldn’t open the door, so police climbed a ladder to try and get in through a second-floor window. Frank met them at the window, then let police inside.
Frank admitted to using a steak knife and hammer to kill Glaser, Eyer said. He led police to the bedroom, where he said, “My wife is dead in the bathtub,” Eyer said.
“Her shirt was soaked in blood,” Eyer said.
Police found knives, razors, box cutters and a mallet in the bathroom, Eyer said.
Frank stood stiffly in court, wearing red prison coveralls. Frank’s mop of black hair fell over his forehead above a square pair of black glasses and a sparse white beard.
He answered “yes” to a series of questions confirming his plea was voluntary but didn’t discuss the motive for the crime.
