The Federal Government has now been shut down for 32 days, and this weekend more than 3 million people across the country did not receive their food stamp benefits.
On Sunday night, Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman is speaking out, blaming his own party for the continued shut down.
In an interview with CNN, he called on Democratic leadership to vote for the Republican budget bill in order to reopen the government.
I feel like the Democrats really need to own the shutdown. I mean, we’re shutting it down. I know why they claim, because they want to address the tax credits, and I fully support that. I voted for all of their CRs, our CRs, every single time, and I refuse to put 42 million Americans in the kinds of food insecurity. Now, this is all solved by just reopening our government,” Sen. Fetterman said.Â
Democrats have refused to sign the budget bill unless federal subsidies for health insurance through the affordable care act are extended.
Fetterman says he believes Republican members of Congress would be willing to have a separate discussion about those subsidies after the government is reopened.
