Taylor police responding to the report of a domestic incident on Thursday found a man pointing a knife in the direction of two people who had made the report, according to a criminal complaint.
Corey Bearden, 20, of 33 E. Chestnut St., Wilkes-Barre, faces a felony trespass charge, two counts of simple assault and related charges.
According to the criminal complaint:
At about 4 a.m., officers responded to 120 N. Main St. As Officer Dalton Boback was making his way to the second-floor apartment he heard loud yelling.
When he got to the apartment’s front door, he heard someone yell, “Drop the knife.”
Boback kicked in the door to the apartment with his gun drawn and found Bearden holding a knife pointed at Elijah Prout and Serenity Vargas.
Prout told officers Bearden had woken the couple up, knife in hand and wearing a mask. Bearden was yelling and threatened to kill the two.
Prout showed police camera footage of Bearden holding a gun and gesturing at them, but there was no audio.
Vargas told officers Bearden wasn’t on the lease and wasn’t welcome at the apartment.
During an interview with police, Bearden admitted going into the apartment. He said he grabbed a knife from inside the apartment because he was afraid Prout was armed.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Nov. 12 before District Judge Alyce Farrell.
